Using current research and best practices, SVHS ELD provides intensive instruction in speaking, reading, writing, and responding to academic English language, with the goal of moving each student at optimum speed to skill levels necessary for success in College Preparatory coursework. ELD instructors provide collaborative cross-curricular support for effective instruction of ELL students in core courses.
Academic Language Development is a year-long course designed to accelerate academic language development for English Language Learners who are concurrently enrolled in their first year of sheltered high school English. The emphasis is on building academic language in listening, speaking, reading and writing English for enhanced success with content literacy. Students use the Edge text series.
