Beginning Media Arts & Advanced Media Arts
The Graphic Design class at Sonoma Valley High School provides students with a comprehensive introduction to the principles and techniques of visual communication. This course is designed to help students develop a strong foundation in both the artistic and technical aspects of design, combining creativity with practical skills.
Students will explore the basics of design theory, including color theory, typography, composition, and layout, while learning how to apply these principles in various media. The course also covers the use of industry-standard software, such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign), to create digital designs for print and web applications.
Throughout the course, students work on hands-on projects that encourage them to express their creativity while solving real-world design challenges. Projects may include creating logos, posters, brochures, websites, and more. The course emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration, preparing students for potential careers in graphic design, marketing, and related fields.
Sonoma Valley High School's Photography program offers students a dynamic and creative environment to explore the art and craft of photography. Through a hands-on curriculum, students learn essential skills in both digital and traditional film photography, including camera operation, composition, lighting, and editing techniques. The program encourages artistic expression while providing practical experience in photojournalism, portraiture, and fine art photography. With access to a fully equipped darkroom and modern editing software, students are given the tools to develop their technical abilities and creative vision, preparing them for potential careers in photography or further studies in the arts.
Students who are enrolled in our second-year photography class, Photography II, can receive Santa Rosa Junior College credit through the SRJC Duel Enrollment Program.
